Meet Veronica!

Luscious Cabaret is tonight!  Have you booked your ticket yet?  Meet our final performer the fabulous Veronica!

Why did you start performing?

I began performing as a New Year’s resolution to myself – I promised myself that this would be the year that I would either try my hand at drag, or just die trying. So I joined Michael Twait’s The Art of Drag course, since I had NO IDEA what I was doing, and thru those amazing workshops and master-classes, Veronica was born!

Do you remember your first time on stage? How did that go?

My first time on stage was in March of this year, performing at Michael Twait’s The Art of Drag ‘Draguation’ – I had done the course and it would be the first time I would ever be on stage, and in full drag, in front of a massive audience! It was the best feeling in the world; the love and positivity I felt from the audience was incredible!

Of all of your acts, which is your favourite to perform?

My favourite act to perform is my introductory act – it is the type of act I perform when in a new venue, and in front of a new crowd – it is a perfect introduction into the world of Veronica, and who she is.

What sets you apart from other performers?

Veronica is not just a character that I perform, but she is a person out-right; when on stage – Veronica completely takes over and delivers everything thru and thru. It’s not just Jorge pretending to be someone, it is Veronica telling you jokes and talking to you. She is a person.

What do you think is people’s first impression of you?

“Who’s the fat bitch on stage?!”

What’s your favourite thing about cabaret?

The art of it all – everyone performs cabaret in such a different and unique way, and I love it! Seeing all different types of acts and performers and practices is marvellous!

How did you choose your stage name?

Veronica is named, originally based on 2 of my favourite fictional characters: Veronica Lodge from Archie comics, and Veronica Sawyer from the movie Heathers. Her surname, Montenegro, is Spanish for dark-horse, which I feel is appropriate for Veronica – it is also a very common and famous villain surname in Telenovelas. The rest of her names (and she has several) all come from people in my life.

What’s your next challenge in life or in performing?

Hopefully being able to afford the uber home with my performances, and buy some new wigs and shoes…
