Meet Trixi Tassels

This lady’s tassel twirling abilities have to be seen to be believed!  Here she is telling us a little bit more about herself…

What does a typical show day look like for you?

Uber-glamourous pink sponge roller wet set, carting around a huge suitcase, not eating anything that might make me feel bloated, worrying that I might have left something behind, looking forward to the post-show wine.
What is the best and worst thing about being in the spotlight?
Best thing: Holding the audience in the palm of my hands and creating a wonderful energy between us.
Worst thing: If you’ve had a bad day or are unwell you can’t just call in sick or do a half-arsed job.  You have to try to push everything to the back of your mind and focus on doing a great show which can sometimes be very difficult.

Do you have any special pre-show rituals?
I listen to my tracks on my iPod to refresh everything and do some stretches to limber up.  If there is space, downward dog always seems to get me in the zone for some reason.

Tell us about the main similarities and differences between “everyday” you and your on-stage persona.
My silly, cheeky, feisty nature is part and parcel of Trixi Tassels.  I’m also very comfortable in the buff, or as close as I can get to it!  There isn’t much difference, Trixi is just a slight extension of everything Helen is.
Craziest moment you’ve experienced as a performer?
I think it would be in Rome for the Caput Mundi Burlesque Award in 2014.  For the Saturday night show all of us showgirls and showboys were ferried through the city from our hotel in a fleet of vintage Fiat 500s to the show venue where a red carpet and paparazzi were waiting for us.  The Fiats had sun roofs that we stood up through and waved to everyone from as we were driving. I don’t know who the locals thought we were but we felt like superstars!
What is your all-time favourite routine you’ve done?
I think I like The Cowboy because it has such a slow, tense build to it.  I love the costume as well, as I’m quite obsessed with country-western imagery and of course it’s got my signature fire strip where I burn my corset and chaps off before setting my tassels ablaze!
Without giving too much away, what can we expect from your act?
Twirling, whirling and a bit more twirling.
Who are you rooting for on Bake Off?
The rhubarb.
