The fabulous Paulus took some time out of his busy schedule to answer a few of our burning questions about him and his act …
What does a typical show day look like for you?
I have Welsh Cake in my Jeggings, so I shall be scraping the worst of that off and Febreezing em before I come and play at Luscious Cabaret. That, and a few eps of Stranger Things on Netflix should do it…
What is the best and worst thing about being in the spotlight?
The best thing is that people can see you. And the worst thing is that people can see you.
Do you have any special pre-show rituals?
I have a wash. That’s always a strong start. I try not to step on any pavement cracks and avoid saying Beetlejuice more than twice.
Tell us about the main similarities and differences between “everyday” you and your on-stage persona.
I’m seldom seen in Waitrose with a Fascinator on. In fact, I’m seldom seen in Waitrose as we have a Sainsbury’s but they are homophobes so I have to go to Iceland hidden under a Bunjab.
Craziest moment you’ve experienced as a performer?
Performing as Nicole Kidman to 13,000 people at Hampton Court Palace. The speaker above my head was larger than the flat I lived in at the time.
What is your all-time favourite routine you’ve done?
I’m singing a little song called HOME for you lucky darlings. I’m having a nice time working that one at the mo. Before that I enjoyed dressing a a mermaid and singing Shiver Me Timbers as audience members blew bubbles at me.
Without giving too much away, what can we expect from your act?
To answer this question would be to assume that I have some sort of a plan…
Who are you rooting for on Bake Off?
Oh definitely the tent.
